FYI- If you're on the west coast, it costs about the same (possibly less if you get deals or use miles) to fly to Japan for a ZR, vs getting one in the USA.
~$1575 MAP Camera (Japan)
~$2200 B&H Photo
Round trip LAX-TYO ~$6-800.
So fly to Tokyo, have a few nights enjoying the sights, and take home a ZR.
I found everything about 40-50% cheaper in Tokyo, compared prices in UK.
All Nikon lens, cameras. Plus, in Tokyo they have huge discounts all the time, in shop.
Oh I'm just talking US prices. I know most this stuff is more in UK/EU/AUS, it has been for ages.
Even with the weak Yen, the difference was negligible a few years ago between Japan price and B&H- often a new camera or lens would be about the same or slightly more than USA.
Tax free for travelers too. ZipAir right now is $520 RT from LAX to NRT in May. Prefer HND but whatever. Itching to go back but maybe late 2026 or in 2027.
, dude at my local store just informed me that nikons after the ZF are Japanese only if purchased here.
If I get one, I'll have to send or take it to Nikon in Tokyo/Osaka to get updated. Fortunately the fee for that is only $45.
Be aware that regular Zr in Japan only has Japanese menu.
It takes a visit to a Nikon service center and an extra 6,000 Yen to have it converted to an international version. They didn't check my ID since I speak fluent Japanese, I don't know if they check for English speakers.

What abut the duties and tariffs on the gear when you land stateside?
Update to my ZR saga.
I've got one coming from MAP camera, made an appointment at Nikon Osaka for the language update, and booked round trip flights from Okinawa to Osaka on united miles.
I'll make sure to take pics at Nikon for you guys lol. Going up on the 25th.
