The lens that traveled to Alaska once and stayed home ever since.

Purchased new in 2008 for a two-week Alaska photography trip, this 80-400mm VR has lived a remarkably gentle life. Most of its 16+ years have been spent in a padded camera bag, not on a camera body.

I'm the original owner. This lens was bought for one specific purpose, did that job beautifully, and has been carefully stored since.

WHY THIS LENS STILL WORKS IN 2026:
The 80-400mm VR remains one of Nikon's most versatile telephoto zooms. While this is the older AF (non-AF-S) design, it's still incredibly capable for wildlife, travel, and sports on any Nikon body with a focus motor (D7000+, all FX bodies). The 80-400mm range is uniquely practical — no other Nikon zoom covers this span with VR at this price point.

CONDITION REPORT:
- OPTICS: Clean glass — zero haze, fungus, separation, or coating damage
- MECHANICS: Smooth zoom/focus rings, fully functional VR, normal AF operation
- COSMETICS: No dents, cracks, or significant marks — honest 9+ condition
- INCLUDES: Original Nikon front cap, rear cap, and lens hood (clean, undamaged)

WHAT YOU'RE GETTING:
This isn't a heavily-used rental lens or a daily workhorse with 100,000 actuations behind it. It's a lens that was purchased for one amazing trip and has lived in single-owner glass that did one job excellently and was properly stored ever since.

COMPATIBILITY NOTE:
This is the AF (non-AF-S) version and requires an in-body focus motor. Works perfectly with D7000 series and up, all FX bodies (D600, D610, D750, D780, D800, D850, etc.), and any body with a built-in AF motor.
