p.1 #1 · Platform to build an online portfolio?

Hello,

I am an old time user of Flickr and I am looking to build an online portfolio with a more pro look and eventually the ability to sell prints, do you have any suggestions about what to look for?

Thank you

I’m not sure what platforms you can access in Italy, but I use Wix for my business. They have multiple photography templates and resources to help. If you want a simple site, I use ShootProof and they have the ability to sell your images on the site.
I’m sure others can provide additional alternatives.

I find SmugMug works really well, and is very easy to customize.

My site: https://www.mikepeters-photography.com/

The university's site where I work: https://montclairstateuniversity.smugmug.com/

I used Smugmug for my sports photography for many years. Sold many photos and there were lots of options for setting it up. Sales reporting was very good, and payment was also easy to setup.

Where I worked, we used Squarespace, but we didn't sell anything, although it gets advertised as having the ability to sell.

Don't sleep on Pixieset, they have been a really good service with clean designs and simple set ups.

I have been building websites for (Jeez, I can’t believe this!) 30 years. For over a decade I have used Wordpress, which is the dominant platform for such things right now. I run self-hosted sites (not just my photo site) using a couple of different hosting services. For most people, simply going with wordpress’s own hosting is probably the easiest solution. (You can set up a basic site for free with wordpress and try it out. Expect a little bit of a learning curve, but it is not that daunting.)

There are TONS of templates for wordpress sites, including many designed for photography and portfolios.

I actually have a hosting plan with WordPress but can't find a suitable template to try and do something myself, could you please point out some who would do the job?

Grazie

Forgot about SmugMug, a while ago it kind of partnered with Flickr where I have an account but totally forgot about it, grazie

Ciao,

would you be so kind and point me to some templates which might do it to build a photo portfolio?

Thank you

I use Pixieset and am very happy as a pro. I use them for my portfolio site, client gallery site, and studio manager. They have print options and a lot of flexibility. I’m happy with them.

Sorry I did not get back to you on this.

I use a template that I designed on my own at my site*, but Wordpress has a TON of templates including some designed for photography, both free and paid. You can access all of them from within any wordpress site.

One way to play with this is to get a basic free starter wordpress.com site and try it out.

Good luck.

Dan

*More accurately, I started with a wordpress template and modified it heavily.
