Hello Everyone,
Seeking some wisdom from the group.
I got an opportunity to purchase D5 with 220k shutter in ok shape ( the usual rub marks from daily use ) All buttons work, clean sensor, body ok.
From ex wedding shooter and priced at 830USD - would you do it ?

I personally don't have a need or desire for a D5 but, MPB has several for sale with more than 220k shutter clicks and they are asking quite a bit more than 830USD. They must be OK with it. These are the dual XQD models.

Yes at that price. I still have one with close to 300k that works perfectly well and is in great shape considering its life as a sports camera.
Before buying, I would look at the price plus the price of a new shutter and decide if I could live with that price. Generally if Nikon replaces a shutter they do a full mirror box replacement and you get a camera back that has been well reconditioned. You will likely get many tens of thousands of photos out of it at that shutter count before you have to consider it.

When I sold mine it had over 500k and still worked like new.. it was worn but functioned perfectly

That's a lot of horsepower for $830. I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

Much appreciated Sir, my thinking was the same as I personally do mot worry about paint and stuff here and there. Shutter swap is on my mind and I shall see if we could manage price a bit

You’re probably at 50% life left. Should easily hit 500k and a replacement is $500. How much and what do you shoot?

Nope. I wouldn't build a system around a 10 year old body/technology likely beyond its hafl-life.

So I bit the bullet and pick it up today -no regrets !!

Reset, adapt to my shooting completed - i love the feel of that body in my hands.
Took it to shoot some fashion show walk and all I got to say - it's like home with comfy chair, just clicks with me. I do need to adjust to few things around where the buttons are but I'm sold thus far.
Why didn't I pick this unit earlier ..... lol

I said the same thing when I got one in 2022. Coming from the D500 and D3s, I wasn't thinking the D5 would feel like as much of an upgrade as it did.

When I had a D5, I replaced my first shutter at 1,750,000 clicks! One of the beast cameras I have ever owned.

some has a D4 listed locally for 900 bucks with 170k shutter actuations. Seems like the D5 is a good price

It seems like a good price. And a blown shutter on Nikon may be a category C repair but it's not like it's totaling out the camera. Furthermore, they're designed to go a lot farther than that. And with discontinuation only about five, six years ago, there will still be parts inventory if there's an issue.
