p.1 #1 · Unexpected Green Box Manual Focus on Zf with unchipped lenses
Wanted to share some unexpected functionality I got with unchipped vintage manual focus lenses on my Zf.
I've been adapting vintage lenses using K&F dumb adapters to Sony E which I then mount on the Megadap ETZ. For example, yesterday it was Pentax Takumar 55.18 >> K&F M42-E >> Megadap >> Zf. My main cam was a Sony for a while so I have these K&F adapters in lots of different mounts.
With this setup I get green box manual focus confirmation. I also tried this with an F mount lens and got the same result.

Be aware that in similar situations this has meant that IBIS doesn't work properly, it will default to 50mm for the lens, Which will work great for a 55mm, but overcorrect for wider lenses, and undercorrect for longer ones. The non-CPU focal length setting no longer takes effect.
At least that's how it worked with a Dandelion chip on the Z7, much to my disappointment.

Perfect explanation. The Zf is getting a spoofed 50mm focal length from the Megadap. Other adapters like the techart allow you to dial in the focal length you want to spoof.

The latest Megadap firmware v2.04 does allow you to convey a different focal length.
Utilize the “Focus Ring Rotation Range” setting item in the Nikon camera menu, and match it with the actual focal length of the lens by setting the corresponding value — after the user completes the corresponding settings, the lens focal length information can be transmitted to the camera body through the adapter ring, realizing the coordinated work of the image stabilization function. The specific operation steps are as follows: Enter the camera menu, select ” CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU” – “f Controls” – “f10 Focus Ring Rotation Range” in sequence. By setting the value corresponding to the focal length, the image stabilization performance will be significantly optimized.

#4 on the firmware instructions says to mount a Sony lens. This befuddles me a bit. Does it mean the firmware can’t be installed without an actual Sony lens, as opposed to an adapted lens?
