I thought the Vegas show might be a good forum to announce the lenses. However, I just found the archived thread on SAR and he mentions mid to late January. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part since I have a YNP trip coming up in mid February.
My fingers are crossed that the variable aperture will be internally zooming. The horrible external zoom was the reason I sold the mark 1 in favor of the 70-200 mk2 and tcs.
I find SAR mildly entertaining from time to time and he has been accurate on some reporting, way off on others. It's mostly junk, but every one in a while there's something beneficial there.
There's a lot of great content on this site, but also a lot of advertising lately too. I get it. Gotta pay the bills..
I remember the new TCs : ) Though most of what I've read lately has been mostly correct, else I wouldn't come back.
And as for worth my attention - lenses are relatively costly, at least for me, and if I can know of new releases in advance I do find it worth visiting said rumor site from time to time. With an adblocker and without clicking on uninteresting topics.
Medium format rx1 and apsc a6900 are some of the never materializing rumors he keeps pushing.
Also, he seems to rant a lot about a7v then changed course all the sudden. For someone that runs a site about Sony he does complain about them quite a lot.

As long as you keep that in mind, the rumor sites aren’t going to hurt anyone. Sometimes they do, in fact, come up with some interesting information. Yes, too many of them hype up silly stuff and promote unvetted products in order to try to generate affiliate income — but you don’t have to buy the stuff through their links.
Having said that, from time to time the nonsense goes a bit too far over the top!
I consider rumors as kind of discussion between cameras manufacturers and the users. Might be fanboy users, but anyway they reflect what the users want and what might be technically possible. I am not use how much camera manufacturers comment the rumors but that might be possible via ambassadors for an example. It would be silly if the manufacturers would totally ignore rumors about their products.
For me, any upgrade decision will come down to a few key factors. Internal/external zoom, Af acquisition speed in low light, breathing, and resulting IQ. The presumed fixed ƒ4.5 is an unknown which at the moment is steering me towards a try before you buy scenario. Once the real specs are revealed hopefully we'll get a clearer picture of what to expect.

An internal zoom would make it an instant buy for me; although, the rumor site didn’t mention additional length over the current lens, which likely makes such doubtful. The current 100-400mm that I had (best of 3 copies I tested) barely tolerated x1.4 converters, IMHO. The new lens, with f4.5 and expected better IQ, might better tolerate converters, which would make it highly versatile, hence compelling, for me.
