I fully expect the Z9 II to be Nikon shooting their golden arrow, a culmination of everything they have learned with Z and and even more future proof camera than the Z9 was.
It will shoot R3D natively just like the ZR, it will have RAW precapture, it will have a much better EVF, every single Z feature that has found its way into any Z camera, and maybe even a few extra surprise features that we didn't see coming. They have put themselves in such a fantastic position that it's hard to conceive, knowing how far behind they were at the beginning of mirrorless.

That's my thinking too. Which, funny enough, is part of why I have held off on the silver ZF this holiday season. While ideally I would like a smaller high MP landscape / fun body to go along with my Z8... If the Z9II ends up being the camera a lot of us are thinking it will be this year, I may just end up buying my first flagship camera, and make the Z9II my action camera, and the Z8 my landscape camera. It may take some patience on our part, but I think by the end of 2027, the Z ecosystem is going to be looking extremely impressive.

I have zero reason to upgrade my Z9. Zero. It's a camera without any flaws for me and my particular needs and workflow.
But, alas.
Well, OK, it has one flaw, in that you can't disable the vertical shutter dial via software and my fat hands unlock it from time to time.

That's similar to how I feel about the Z8. The main thing that would benefit me is raw pre capture in some situations. Admittedly, I wouldn't mind a bump to 30FPS either, but it's not exactly necessary.
Granted, we say this until Nikon pulls some magic such as noticeably increasing the dynamic range at low ISO and gets most of us itching to upgrade

Silver won me over too. Took a bit to get the Sepia though... according to the Nikon Rep, they remove it from the "assembly line and put the Sepia material on it", aka hand made. Idk how believable that is but it did take a while to get it.
I did NOT see this thread or post, I DID NOT! I settled on the Black/Silver and am happy. I DO NOT need a Sepia Silver. NOT HAPPENING. Really. For Sure. I have previously commented on my grip choices that work and look good with both of my Zf's. I will pass on the Sepia which was my first choice for the Silver version. I will Pass. I WILL PASS!!
1) the Zf has changed my preference from NEEDING high res files. Paired with great glass, there’s little you can’t do with that sensor if you can avoid cropping.
2) I’d buy a 45mp Zf on day 1
3) Thank you for your service =)
In all seriousness, this pretty much sums up my thoughts. I would actually let one of my Zf's go for this option, and not before.

Too late, the silver bug already bit you. When I first saw the Silver/Sepia, it took me a few weeks of going back and fourth and ended up buying it. Then waited a few more weeks for it to be available because they were all back ordered.

That would be a Nikon S rangefinder-styled non-stacked 45 megapixel with a fixed 35 mm F2.8 lens.
Hear my cries, oh Nikon!
Why fixed lens? Release it in Leica M mount - huge selection of lenses from multiple mfgs - so no need to develop a new line but just sell the bodies by the, er, hundreds of thousands..
I would 100% buy this Nikon over a Leica M-EV1. Especially since Nikon would provide the latest in focusing aids and not dumb it down like in the Leica.

The Zf is nearly perfect for me, but if they could find a way to trim it down a bit I would even just buy that revision day 1. A slightly more pronounced front grip or a thumb grip area like the OM3 would be nice too. A huge bonus would be a slightly higher res sensor like the 33mp Sonys.
All that said, I am still only scratching the surface of the what Zf can do...I am just now getting into learning how to record video with it too.

That Sepia and silver gave me pause and I held off on pulling the trigger. I now have both in my cart at BH deliberating...
I would LOVE this, but with a 35/2 instead of 2.8. Might be too large to get that though, although they wouldn’t have to consider their humongous z-mount, and could instead make things a bit smaller.
The more fixed lens compacts with full frame or crop sensors and fast-ish primes, the better. Those are my casual camera of choice, signed 10-year daily RX1 user.

Half this forum would buy this camera at either f2 or f/2.8 I just think 2.8 is a happy medium for size and versatility while still having pretty bokeh.
Even with the Zf sensor, it would sell like hotcakes, and they could release both, ala the A7C line.
