I only coveted one luxury brand watch. But I will never own it. That boat sailed without me some years ago. My Wife keeps pushing me to stop whining and buy one. Can't bring myself to do it.

Should be IWC + Leica, Germany combo.

IWC is Swiss AFAIK but I like it, own 2 of them. Well owned before my son grew up.

A part of me cannot accept it, the part that think you should only own what you use, that fell guilty when each time I look at the photo gear I own.

Rule no 1 in life: always listen to your wife especially when she tells you to spend your money to buy something you like. It does not happen that often.
Which brand if I may ask?

P.S: just drank half a bottle of a 2016 Brunello di Montalcino so I'm kind of jealous of you living in Parma

Watch ownership is probably very similar to camera equipment. Q: how many 50mm lenses is too many? A: does not compute.

It is a simple stainless steel Rolex Daytona. Years ago I drove Porsche race cars. The one race I wanted to win most was the 24 hours of Daytona. When you win that race you get one with special engraving on the back as part of the prize package. Well I never came first. Second and third was the best I managed. To make it worse the year after my last podium finish they began giving watches down through third place. So, in the end I was always a position short, or a year short.

I love the watch. But I feel that if I now buy one, everytime I look at it I will be reminded that I never actually won one. That wouldn't be fun.

Yes the food and drink where I live is incredible. Officially recognized by UNESCO and others as the best in the World. Added bonus is that I just looked at a study that identified Italy as the least expensive country in Europe to by alcoholic beverages. Now for another thing I am missing. I don't drink alcohol, never have...

On the other hand, you deserve it has much as the guy the year after you. And finishing 2nd or 3rd is already very impressive in my book.

I've noticed. I live in France and goes to Italy as much as I can. I'm not complaining.

Nobody's perfect. For instance, I drink and enjoy good wine, spend some time on circuits but never raced and would not have been as good as you

And if you want something german because swiss watches are so common, Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original are interesting.
I almost bought a Senator Excellence Date Panorama a few years ago but as a geek, I only wear an Apple Watch those days because one cannot pay or send a text with a mechanical watch.
So I gave mine to my son

To me a useful device that doesn't vibrate, bing, bong, or have a screen or internet connection is a huge perk. I wear my Apple Watch for workouts and I still hate it - for everything else it's something mechanical, and in some cases even manual winding.

I personally love the Glashütte Original Senator perpetual calendar and the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk. But the former is too thick for my taste, and the latter too expensive.

I hear you. That happened to me with AP and F.P. Journe. Should've got them when I had the chance. Now they are more expensive to get and a pain in the ass in terms of dealer games and other crap.

Next time you are in Italy let me know. We can shoot some and I'll buy you a dinner. I have plenty of time now that I am "pensionato"

My Wife is on a program to teach me to love wine. I am learning slowly. I do enjoy visiting the various wine districts with her. Borolo area is my favorite so far.

Where does one appraise/sell watches anyway? That one was inherited and a house would be more useful.

Chrono24.com is the start. Plenty of others but this is the 800lb gorilla.

I only buy watches like GO and ALS on the secondary market. I picked both my GO Panomatic XL counter and ALS Lange 1 Time Zone for well under half of retail.

We're all sentimental and value things as mementos of certain moments in life. I wear my grandfather's watch; it's over 80 years old. I also have a very expensive watch, but I only use it for work—it's just a business accessory for me. I also use my Apple Watch only for workouts, as a sports accessory. They don't warm my soul. I could say my grandfather's watch and my Leica camera are all I need for happiness (after my health).

I have one. It’s a fun watch with a cool couple of complications that won’t break the bank. It doesn’t scream luxury but it’s a decently built time piece. I like mine. It’s reasonably thick dor its size and it has a sporty vibe.

Yea, I do like the style / design of this watch over the Leica's.

Looks pretty cool, with some fairly high-end features (ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal) thrown in to an interesting design concept. I also like visible movement architecture, even if it's on a mechanical movement that probably isn't all that accurate.

I have 4 Leica bodies and normally wear a Timex Ironman. If I want to be dressy, I’ll put on my $60 Casio dive watch.
