p.1 #1Two Porches
This house was one of the original houses in the town of Frederick,MD circa late 1700's..it's "neighbor" on the right started the brick building era of the town in the 1800's. All brick was made here in the Frederick area..the hard and dark “Frederick Reds”. BUT the "two porches" were made of this brick prior to its becoming "famous".

Both porched houses have the exact brick work but the left, our left, brick work is accented to display a more intricate pattern of brickwork technique. I found I liked the color more than the b&w.
What say you?
Thanks!
Dan

You're describing brick "bonds". The most common bond you see today is not structural - it's a decorative "stretcher" bond. Just a veneer to mimic the look of pre-20th century buildings, like yours above, that had structural English or Flemish bond brickwork. Once you start looking at the bond, it explains why some old buildings look better.

Thanks for the "character" lesson in brickwork Steven! I will carry that with me as I stroll through the very olde neighborhoods of the town near me.
Lots of character in dem bonds!
Thanks!

Looks like more than 2, but the B&W one is better to me...
