Canon refurb question

p.1 #1 · Canon refurb question

Hey All,

Purchased the rf 70-200 2.8 from Canon refurb. Looking under the cap at the felt around the rear element - the felt seems to have for lack of a better term .. cr*ap all over it. Is this normal? The felt on my 100-500 is mint as my other is.

Haven’t tested the lens yet and maybe I’m just paranoid 🙃

Thanks in advance to the experts here.

That doesn't look right. Personally, I'd return it.

Appreciate the advice. Even as a refurb it’s expensive so I’ll call them tomorrow.

100% exchange it!

I've bought many refurbished lenses directly from Canon over the years, and every single one of them have looked absolutely brand new to me, they all have been spotless.

I've bought many lenses from Canon Direct USA and they always looked, smelled and worked like new. Your lens looks used and abused. I'd send it back.

This is not representative of the refurb gear that I have purchased over the years.

I'll second everyone else's comment. I actually almost exclusively buy refurbished lenses from Canon and I have never experienced this. I'd ask for an exchange.

I feel the same as everyone else. Return it and specify why. I have a few refurbished items and they have never arrived like that. They always look new.

Looks like they forgot to "refurbish" that one. I'd send it back, too.

Definitely going back with this condition even if refurbished.

That felt liner is a discrete part somebody skipped replacing during refurbishment.

Just an update - I opened this box a couple weeks after I received it (and the other lens) so they won't replace it. I was out of the country unfortunately. But they are fixing it. I tried to fight for the replacement. Long time customer first time needing assistance etc.. but rules are rules falling outside their return window. C'est la vie.

I bought a refurbished R6 Mark II from Canon a couple of years ago and the hot shoe was not working (it was the only refurb I've had a problem with). They exchanged it but it probably would have been faster if I had Canon fix it instead. It took 2 week to get the exchange.
