p.2 #1 · SG-image 35mm f/2.2 AF pancake lens for E/L/Z mounts
I personally think the "regular" SG 35/2.2 looks better than the "Nikon SE" version. Even planning on using it on my ZF, I think the simple look of the regular one is better.
Frustrated by this missed release date. Was hoping to have this little lens before another upcoming trip lol.

I am guessing it will be released after the upcoming Chinese new year holiday... I ordered X mount apsc 25mm 1.8 from ebay and the seller said the factories are closed for the holidays... I got it from another store. The extreme corner on 25mm may not be very sharp stopped down on 40MP, but the af is good, faster than Viltrox 35mm 1.7. I will check the sharpness more when the weather is warmer. Again it is $100 lens in China and sold $125 for outside, I do not have big expectations to match Sigma/Sony lenses...

On the one hand, you're right, it's too early to judge, but for me, just looking at the reviews of their cropped 25/1.8 for the same $100 is enough to see how bad it is. I don't think the full-frame 35/2.2 would be any better for the same $100. As for the TTartisan 40/2, I don't even understand why they released it. I looked at my old photos with the Canon EF 40/2.8, and even it's an order of magnitude better. We'll get to the point where any "product" released for pennies will be perceived as an "excellent" solution.
p.2 #4 · SG-image 35mm f/2.2 AF pancake lens for E/L/Z mounts
My experience with the Nikon 40/2 was so negative, I feel it wouldn't be hard to improve upon that lens. Maybe I had a bad copy, but it just wasn't sharp anywhere in the frame wide open. So much so, that I was worried my ZF was defective. Nope, just a garbage lens. Every other lens I've put on my ZF has performed better.
That being said, I don't usually have a high bar of what I expect from a lens. I prefer character over perfection, and I prefer a more "classic" optical signature vs modern over-corrected. 40mm has never been one of the focal lengths I gravitated to, so none of those 40mm options interest me anyways.

A good friend of mine in China helped with some links to a review of the lens. Text is in Chinese, run through Google Translate if you want to know what it says.
The images failed to show when I ran the page-URLs through Translate so I post the original web pages here. They load rather slow, at least here in Sweden.
The last link gives you the opportunity to download some of the images in a zip. The text says it is full res, straight out of camera and the Exif on those pictures says that they are shot on an A7RV. For some reason, you can't click on the last link, you must copy it and then paste it into a new tab and make sure to edit out the "Fred Miranda" part so the link in the browser is exactly like the text is below.

On the second review, there was a link to full-size at the bottom. I uploaded the photo to Google, enjoy this stuff))
p/s I deleted a few photos from the album, it's outright crap)

Samples look reasonably good. Hard to really get a sense without a good comparison. I'm curious how much shorter this lens is than the existing 35/2.8 lenses (Zony/Samyang). Doesnt' actually look all that different, just the SG-image lens has a design that makes it look more like a pancake.
Both of the Sony and Samyang are likely sharper than what I see here, but that's just my own estimate. I had the Samyang and it was sharp enough, but the focus was kind of slow and noisy. An extra 2/3 stop is not bad to get with this lens though (if it's real).

The E and Z versions are now available via WeChat. After the Chinese New Year, it will be available on Chinese trading platforms in Taobao, etc. Version L is after the holidays.

How do you know that? )
It's math, and there are formulas you can use to calculate it. For a quick and easy visual approach, I like using the "howmuchblur" site since you can see what happens when the background is close or far from the subject and also tweak your subject distance to the lens. Here's the blur graph for both lenses:
BTW, you mentioned the 35/2.2 is 10mm shorter than the TTA 40/2. Where did you get this info?
p.2 #16 · SG-image 35mm f/2.2 AF pancake lens for E/L/Z mounts
The quick and easy way is just to do the obvious math--focal length divided by aperture:
35/2.2 = 15.9
40/2.5 = 16
The higher the number, the more blur you can achieve on the same distance to subject. Just be aware that manufacturer's stated focal lengths and apertures are always rounded in different ways, so a result that close is essentially equivalent.

Also worth noting that a few reviewers found the TTArtisan a little wider in FOV than other 40mm lenses. Sony 40mm and Nikon 40mm iirc. It's not a massive difference, but definitely a mm or two wider than the others.

Yes, this is why you can't just make a blanket statement like the math chart. It helps to actually know how a lens works in the real world

It's not math's fault that lens manufacturers don't provide the right data to calculate this Still, I hope the calculation methods provided are helpful for anyone interested.
Another thing to consider beyond blur is whether you prefer shooting with a 35mm or 40mm lens. Leica's marketing has definitely made 40mm feel more desirable these days…
