I like your composition and long exposure yet the saturation and/or white balance is not to my taste.

Thank you! Totally appreciate the feedback Morris. It was one of those evenings where the sky just exploded with color, and the long exposure really amplified the drama. Definitely an intense look, but that’s exactly what drew me in. A bold look for sure, but it felt true to what the scene gave me that evening.

I am a big fan of tree subjects and this one did not disappoint. The composition is nice here. Could you have gotten lower to create more separation from the bottom branches and the mountains?

The first thing that came into my mind when I opened this was USA, USA,USA!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Dan — really appreciate the thoughtful feedback. I think you’re absolutely right: in hindsight I should have dropped the camera a bit to get more separation so the lower branches would pop more against the sky. That would’ve cleaned up the mountain line too. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind next time I’m setting up. Thanks again!

Another reason to go back Scott! The tree does definitely lock in the foreground providing a vast depth, scale and expanse of Mother Nature getting ready for bed! Nice emotion in this also.

AND YES TO "USA-USA-USA"!

Happy New Year!

Nice work. I understand Morris's critique, I also thought the saturation was perhaps a tad much, but I also believe you that it is true to a nuclear CO sunset! I love lone trees like this and think your framing works great with the clouds.

I appreciate the comment Jim! It was pretty nuclear this evening and I often prefer an artistic approach over a documentary approach – so my style usually leans to crisp contrast and saturated colors. Not everyone’s cup of tea, I get it.
