I was hiking up in our local park (Briones) late afternoon on a day last week to get out before the 5 straight days of rain coming up. I used to bring a camera with me on hikes and mtn bike rides in this park because of the local wildlife up there, but the past few years there has been very little to see up there so I stopped. But this time of year is as active as we get for critters, so I decided to bring my Z8/600pf with me on the hike...and I'm glad that I did.
I've seen golden eagles 6 or 8 times over the years on mtn bike rides in this park....but it has been a few years since the last sighting. The eagle wasn't bothered by my presence as I stood quietly about 50 yards away and just visited. Eventually he/she flew right by me off the ridge. Some were too close for focus, but here are a few others...

Second and last in-flight shots for me, nice work patiently waiting it out. Looks like barbed wire isn't an issue for them, heh.

I really don't like that barbed wire across that gate. It is a recent change, and is not needed since that is a gate that cattle cannot open...I'm tempted to bring up a wire cutter to get rid of that one piece so birds can perch on the rail without that in their way....

I read you 5x5 bud... but my guess is that barbed wire on the gate top section is more likely intended to deter homo-sapiens than bovines.

I hear you, but in this case not likely as this gate sits on top of a ridgeline with dropoffs on either side, and very few people venture up there. I had some problems climbing down from that spot as there have been some slides that took out the little singletrack...but I made it!
