I picked up power adapters already but was not sure if ya'll might have some words of advice or suggestions on things to avoid etc etc.
Me and the boy are going in Febuary for about 11 days. He was presented an opportunity to train and showcase with their students and teams over there for soccer so it should be a very interesting trip!

I have been to Madrid and Spain in general many times. Madrid is a beautiful city to visit. Lots of architecture, people are very friendly, and the food/wine (if you drink) is superb.
I heartily recommend day trips (by train - very easy) to Segovia and Toledo. Toledo is incredible.
Your kit sounds (from a coverage standpoint) great as long as you're willing to carry it around. My only additional recommendation on that end would be a bright prime as a carry at night or you don't want to lug all your gear around.
As far as locations to photograph in Madrid, the Plaza Mayor, Cibeles Palace and Fountain, the art museum, and Palacio Royale are just a few. Wonderful and vibrant city. Enjoy!
Areas to avoid are few, but there are some. Carabanchel southwest of the city center near the M-40 is like any low income part of major cities - crime is higher than in other locations. The south/southwest portions of the city are the higher crime areas. But generally speaking Madrid is a very safe city.
