p.1 #1 · Replacement foot for the Nikon 500mm f/4E FL?

I am looking for a replacement foot for the Nikon 500mm f/4E FL lens - ideally with a) rounded base so it can be comfortably carried and b) QD port. There are plenty of options that have either a) or b) but the only option I can find with both is the Leofoto NF-04.

Unfortunately the Leofoto offering is grossly undersized and unsuitable for use as anything but a handle. In order to save on material and machining they have a straight post that comes vertically down from the attachment location making the insertion and fastening/loosening of the screws more fiddly than it should be.

The RRS foot is unquestionably robust with a design similar to the Nikon OEM but no QD, and difficult to find (B&H has one at a great price if anyone is looking)

The Kirk LM-63NSG seems to have the pad and the QD but its description is inconsistent - some sites list it as good for the 500/4 AFS, but Kirk's own listing shows it as fitting the 200-400 only. I will call them tomorrow to confirm.

The Wimberly AP-554 looks rock solid but supremely inconvenient to use as a handle and no QD

The Henjar version looks painful on the hands and the QD slot does not seem to have a SS insert. I also have poor past experiences with Henjar replacement feet

Last but not least ProMediaGear is perhaps the best choice. Not a rounded handle on the top but looks robust - albeit the apparent 2 piece design worries me

For those that have pondered this question before - what is your experience? Specific experience with the Leofoto? I am unlikely to ever shoot it on a tripod with anything other than a gimbal so perhaps the absence of rigidity on par with the more conventional choices is not an issue?

When you say undersize, isn't the Leophoto is the longest at 153mm?

Good call... I used poor language. It is undersized in terms of thickness of the material. It is less than half the thickness of the OEM foot, which also has reinforcement ridges. I own many Leofoto items: 2x tripods, 1x ballhead, 1x monopod, 1x lens replacement foot, 1x L bracket, and this is the first time I am disappointed.

I found a used Kirk foot at KEH in EX+ condition for $84 so I bought it, worst case I return and go for the Promedia Gear... or just this on the OEM foot

This is what I used on my Nikon 400 f2.8E FL VR, a Benro LP85K. Solid and comfortable with a padded handle.

Looks solid... but no QD port, which is a must have for me. And does not seem to be in stock anywhere. Those eyelet straps are worse than useless. I need a two-point QD attachment - one on the lens foot, and one on the body (which I already have).
