So I played with the C50 a bit more and tried my other lenses. This is the issue that I ran into, my RF 400 keeps getting the ERR 70 popping up. I did clean the contacts just in case but it works on 3 R1's and the R5 II. I tried it with the 2x extender and I still get the error.
I put my wife's EF 400mm with the 2x and adapter with no issues. I tried the 15-35, 85, 24-105z, 70-200z and my 100-300 all without issues. Now this only seems on the camera side, it did seem to work taking video which as short but still no errors.
I can't even get it to take one picture at this point and it locks up with error 70. Do we think this may just be a firmware/compatibility issue with the lens? I am leaning this way myself seeing all the other glass works and my 400mm works on all other bodies and never had any issues with it.
Version 1.0.6 from April 15, 2024. It's fairly old, so wouldn't address this specific issue, but if you've had the lens for a while, maybe you haven't updated it?
Otherwise might be worth calling Canon CPS on Monday to ask if they can try the combo to verify it works for them. Another option might be Lens Rentals as they have both in the rental pool and could perhaps try it for you. If it's not specific to your camera or lens and is a broader problem, it's something they would want to know about because it could potentially affect their customers. I suspect though that the number of people using this combination will be very small and you may not get much, if any actual user feedback here about it. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the firmware is up to date. I will call Canon for sure but was hopeful that I was just missing something. I agree not many will have the combo. Lens Rentals is a great idea too, never thought of that.
I called Canon CPS and they said the standard send it in and also leave feedback on the website which Canon Japan will see it.
I called Lens rentals and talked with John. Unfortunately they do not have them in stock yet. John also is in agreement with me that it is bizarre and he feels it is not the camera or the lens but the combo they may need a firmware update. He will test it but needs to wait till they have them in.
I will update if anything else comes up. If any forum member can test that combo it will be appreciated.
I shot video for an event last night for over an hour it it was outstanding.
Since it's working for you except with that specific combo, I'd wait on sending it to Canon until Lens Rentals can check their stock, which would give you a better idea if it's just your combo or a universal problem.

I agree and I also had a member reach out and will test if for me. He is waiting for his gear being shipped back from a shoot.
Okay so I think I finally isolated the cause of the ERR 70. I did a full factory reset and tested each setting, painful process.
I only get the issue when I put the camera in High Speed Continuous + with and with out precapture. The other speed settings do not affect it. Again no issues with my other cameras in the High Speed Mode so I am thinking it may be my Camera / lens combo. All other lenses seem to work in that setting. At least I know what is causing it now.
I sent over my Camset settings and Canon will look at it to see if they get the same issue.
I may just end up returning and exchanging this one.
I forum member tested this and did not get any errors. He did not test my settings yet.
Okay I heard from the guy at Canon who tested out my findings and my settings. Seems like the recent lens firmware 1.0.6 on the RF400 is the cause being in H+. At least I am not crazy, this one was tough to find.
Here is his reply
" I was able to grab a C50 from the office this afternoon, load your settings for stills and used my RF400mm lens- at first, I did not receive any errors or odd behavior. I updated the lens firmware to 1.0.6 and immediately got an error when trying to shoot with your settings.
I did a factory reset and set for H+ and Pre-continuous (without your settings) this also presented an error. One more reset and set ONLY to H+ and no Pre-continuous- also an error. Reset and set to H and no error.
I will get with our service team and the cinema team and show them our findings. Thank you for your help and patience while we investigated this issue. "
So now we know the issue and will just need to wait for a firmware update.
