p.1 #1 · Northern Lights in New Mexico

I had missed this strange solar event a few months ago (or was it last year?) when the Northern Lights could be seen almost everywhere. I also missed the first night on Nov 11 but then got a warning from a friend on the second night and off we went to a lake in Northern NM with the only idea that the lake was "roughly north" from the road access. I couldn't have planned this, the lights aligned perfectly with the lake

The show lasted for about 45 minutes, then disappeared, so we folded. Some friends told me that the lights came back around 4AM. This has been on my bucket list since that weird past episode.

I see a lot of shots of the Northern Lights in the southwest US with flaming and oversaturated reds . This is not one of those. It is true that the camera "sees" colors differently but I tried my best at adjusting the colors to reflect what was happening.

Technical: Foreground: 80 sec; sky+lake: 8 sec. Blended in PS. Took out 2-3 distracting lights. iPhone shots were pretty similar

Very nice, kudos for the restrained use of "Saturate".

mystic atmosphere - northern lights are well harmonized with ambivalent background flame

That’s a very fine image, zuru, and perfectly processed. I especially appreciate that you did not crank the saturation into garishness as some are prone to do

I agree with everyone else. This is a really compelling image, largely because your restraint in processing allows it to retain some subtlety. Really nice work in all respects.
