p.1 #1 · Tokina 17mm 3.5… go on.. prepare me (gulp)

Well I thought why not, no one else seemed to want it.

Was hoping it would arrive today.. still no sign

My plan was to stick it on my 1div equates to 22mm and just leave it sat around in sleep mode… basically a toy 🤣 the camera is practically worthless.

Anyone have good memories or was it best forgotten 🫣

Edit:-

It arrived 5mins after the above was typed..
Nearest camera to hand is my trusty 6D
It went straight on… unbelievably no serious vignetting wide open, but the sharpness wide open caught me off guard- fully expected it to be shocking, yet a pile of books 3m away stacked on a shelf with the spines facing me… could zoom in a read each title clearly.

That’ll do me 👍🏻

AF is… S L O W 😴

No worries

I had one in nikon af mount, film, ATX version. Good lens

If you think 1D4 is worthless I'll take it I think i might be able to get iso 12800 out of it

Well after further scrutiny it transpires that it does vignette heavily bottom left of the rear screen… but not the bottom right or top corners??

Anyway I’m not bothered
The plan all along was for it to go on either aps-H or aps-C
That will give 22mm and 28/9mm
Should be fun
Alternatively I could select the wide ratio on my FF and use it to crop the corners off
Either way I’m keen to see what I can get.

It is a good lens , shouldn't do that. KR has a good review, extreme corners not too good but it's so far in the corner it doesn't really matter. Otherwise good

I probably bought it after an excellent pop photo review, I saw something about pop photo being available online

There are 3 versions of the lens, which one are you talking about.

I've tried several of these. Neither lens is great at 3.5, but stopped down they're much better. The RMC version was a slightly better lens than the ATX Pro when I looked at edge to edge sharpness. I've always liked this lens, and if you're shooting with good light at f8, you'll get some good results.

Mine has a built in non removable lens hood
- guessing that’s the worst one… right🤣👍🏻

Huh... I had this lens - the AT-X Pro version - over a decade ago (bought it here on FM, no less). Kept it for a little while but it really turned out redundant vs. my 16-35mm f/2.8L II (at the time), and not so much more compact that I could use it as a walkaround lens (with the 24-85 in tow) as I originally intended. Instead of letting it collect dust, I just let it go.

The motor is really old school, no longer having to deal with these is something I appreciate a great deal. Sharpness-wise, it couldn't really trump the 16-35 (uh... Captain Obvious to the world?..) but it was okay. I wish I could keep it but despite owning lots of lenses, I'm still not a collector, and probably won't be.

And yes, 1D IV isn't worthless, period. Though I use mine rarely - as backup, or to photograph my cats at home where I keep it (the Z9 is mostly at the office or out with me in the field... feels like a disgrace to the old 1D IV but at least I'm not trying to sell it off for peanuts...)

They're good lenses, I guess I had the 1993-99 version. Might be redundant if you already have 16-35/4, but this thread makes me at least think about picking up another Nikon mount to go ff, maybe even rf.
