p.1 #1 · Odd sensor tech

Saw this online. I guess its 4x sized APS-C sensors. One sensor exposes for shadows, other for mids, other highlights, and one to average them out? Anyone seen this before? I wonder if something like this can even record video without having some sort of jitters, stitching issues.

It doesn’t make sense to me because each one would have a different field of view and be getting different sections of the image. A lens projects the full image onto the full sensor, so there is no way a 4-sensor camera could even work. The lens would have to project the same image onto all 4 sensors, which isn’t possible

Agreed. And in that case what do you end up doing? Stitch the image together like a 360 camera?

I think that’s the only way it could work but I don’t imagine it would be as good of an image as just using a medium format camera

Where did you see this? Some context would help.

Maybe not practical for a consumer camera but multisensor cameras do exist, like the Rubin Observatory’s 3200MP one with 189 sensors
