Classic Zeiss rendering from an early F lens, solid build, hitch in the filter ring (slightly dented rim, I was able to coax a filter on but not all the way), very sharp and crisp at f/5.6 but also famous portrait lens wide open. Works on my D850. 8/10 clean used condition, dry aperture blades, smooth focusing, crisp f/stop detents, AI-conversion looks like a DIY job. With front and rear caps (no shade). |

This was the last manual focus Nikon 300 with ED glass and built in shade. Beautiful lens, much more compact than any AF lens even the PF. Cleans up very well by f/5.6. Clean (some internal dust but nothing nasty or extra) 8.5/10 clean used condition, dry aperture blades, smooth focusing, crisp f/stop detents, front 72mm and rear caps. I have used this with a D850 with excellent results although it is restricted to sunny light or tripod work. I've had all the modern 300s including 300/2.8s and slightly stopped down to 5.6-8 this is comparable, albeit it flares more readily than a modern coating. But if you want it for travel or just in case a volcano erupts it's great. These sell for $175-$200, all this stuff is priced lower than what's available on eBay or Craigslist so it sells first.
This would be a good sacrificial lens for Burning Man or Hawaii, dirty places and war zones. |
