I have a Zf I've been using for professional family photography and I'd like to add a second camera to use along side it. The new camera would become the "main" camera, and the Zf would move to the backup or second camera spot.
The camera I *want* is the Z6III, as I like having the top display. But I know the sensor and memory cards are different, and I'm concerned about that. The Z5II is likely the more logical choice, but it doesn't have the top screen.
So, if I were to use a Zf and Z6III side by side on the same shoot, how close would the image output be? Would I need to make separate edits for the Zf and Z6III in order to have them match? How much of a pain is this in practice?
My understanding is that the Z5II is basically just a Zf in a more ergonomic body, so I assume that the images coming out of both would be near identical, right?
Any help, wisdom, or guidance here is appreciated!

The answer depends on what you consider a "match" and what raw converter you use. Nikon's own raw converter should come out pretty close for routine use. I suspect that ACR would be the same. However, if you expect to put images from two color checker targets side by side and not be able to see the difference, then you would need to create separate custom profiles. If you need close to perfect matching with minimal hassle the best option is to buy another Zf.

Thanks. I use Lightroom. I'm hoping to make the photos from both cameras match enough that clients won't really notice, they don't have to be absolutely perfect. I don't want another Zf, so it's between the Z6III and Z5II.

Z5 II is basically a smaller Zf. It's as close as it gets. Z6 III has a different sensor which "could" affect colors. But iirc they all use the latest Nikon's NP3 picture profile, so the colors should match if you're shooting JPEGs.

Thanks. I shoot Raw and that’s why I’m curious as to how close the photos will turn out between the cameras. Ideally I’d have two identical cameras, but I want to keep the Zf for other things, and don’t want another one 😀
