A female sadhu (or sadhvi) in Varanasi. She had a very special air about her. She had the look of peace in her eyes, a look of profound detachment. In Sanskrit this is known as ananda, or bliss. In fact, she was the most peaceful person I met on that trip. She had walked from the southern tip of India to Varanasi, a distance of about 1,500 miles. She also had an abiding faith that Lord Shiva would take care of all her material needs. There wasn't an iota of fear or worry in her eyes. It reminded me of the parable about the birds in the field of the New Testament.
