The abandoned farm of Lokinhamrar sits directly beneath Skjöldur, the towering cliff that seals off the northern shore of Arnarfjörður. Until a rough road was pushed through in the 1970s, this was among the most inaccessible farms in the Westfjords of Iceland; the last permanent residents left in 1989, and today the house wakes only in summer.
