p.1 #1 · The logic behind the auto shutter on A1 II?
The Sony A1 II has three settings for the shutter type: mechanical, electronic and auto. I've been quite happy with the electronic option 100% of the time, but figured that perhaps I should trust Sony engineers and let them pick the shutter type based on the shooting conditions.
So I switched to auto. It seems to be using the mechanical shutter almost all the time. TBH I don't even remember the last time it switched to the electronic mode.
Does anyone know, either from experience or reading Sony documentation (other than the useless manual), what logic dictates the behavior of the automatic shutter type in the A1 II?

I would hazard a guess that Auto won't engage electronic shutter until after 1/8000, when the mechanical shutter reaches its limit. This shutter setting has been there since at least the A9, though I know it is also on the Rx100 since Mark V.

Agreed. The first thing I did with both cameras was switch to silent shooting, electronic only.

I’m not sure what would make it choose electronic vs mechanical, but I just shoot in electronic shutter all the time because the mechanical shutter is annoying 😂
I was just on a trip where there was a bear, and all these other people were taking pictures with their loud mechanical shutters and beeping focus and there I am shooting silently lol
