I don't think they are directly related. AFAIK, Nikon does not publish end of service dates for most photo gear. It's mostly dependent on parts availability.
Just because Nikon won't service it doesn't mean it's not fixable. I recently had a 25 year old 70-200mm rebuilt. Just have to know the people with parts. A lot of times Nikon sells off parts in bulk at end of life to certain shops.

Outstanding idea! one of your best! Thanks for getting the OP the info..
Never mind that NPS no longer provides a number to contact them, only a way to send a message/email. You can call Nikon's general support number, and even talk to a rep who will claim to send a message to NPS for you, but you'll never hear from anyone. Even when NPS had a number to call, they wouldn't answer and never responded to voicemail. They do actually respond to messages/email... eventually... but are not that helpful in their responses.
Maybe the Platinum membership buys you better communication? The "Pro+" that I have certainly does not.
Nikon, Melville NY (800) 645-668. Nikon has *always* answered this phone number (M-F only during bus hours).
I’ve been with Nikon exclusively since 1980 and have called them a lot. I call them when I feel I must. I am not technically wise and learning the Z8 menu has been a very long uphill process. I still do not like the Z8 menu but now...I sure know where to go for a quick answer and I’ve learned to do some troubleshooting too.
The quality of advice depends on who I get. In the past I have had 2 advisors who do not know what they are talking about and yet confidently gave advice anyway. I do not tolerate that anymore. I’ve learned to say “If you do not know, just tell me and pass me to another advisor... no problem”. Everyone there cannot know the intricacies of that system. It takes time and I am never one to give an advisor a difficult time if they do not know the answer. I think Apple has the best advice here: “Our advisors are here to help; please treat them with *Kindness* "
Then, there are those two Nikon advisors who’ve been outstanding! Wow! They’ve taught me a lot.
Correction: I misread ahinesdesign’s post. He or she is right.
Two different Nikon entities here... NPS and NikonUSA in Melville. I had a couple of experiences trying to reach NPS by phone, and they are as described in ahinesdesign’s post. NPS will not answer; NikonUsa in Melville will.
Thanks for the replies so far. I just sent an email to Nikon NPS (the email I found online was [email protected]) and will report back if I receive a response.
