Now an answer to the most important question please. Were you satisfied with his photos and did you conclude that your money was well spent?

If so then the points you have made may be correct in theory but that's about it as far as I see going it as would any other person viewing those photos since the viewer could not care less those observations if they love the photos.

Not sure if you were responding to my post or not, I'll assume "yes". The photos were OK, but he did miss some details such as maladjusted clothing and issues with sunlight in outdoor pictures interfering with the flash source. He seems to be busy with corporate clients but he was not very directive to us human subjects to help work on composition and details in people's appearance. Hard to say whether this had anything to do with technical distractions or just a photographer not entirely versed on family event photography.

Thanks for the answer. Not so much a function of equipment then. It was a family event not a corporate event so it sounds like you got the wrong guy.

I'm pretty tech fatigued, yet another reason im not super interested in rf

You can say I'm crazy but fuji is doing really good sales more on the retro side of things even the older bodies have gone up in price. Film is popular and old p&s selling $300-600. So I'm certainly not alone in that thinking.

Had too many reasons to put in 1 post, really. Some stuff like lightweight aps, 200-800, and 100-400 look interesting, though

I’m new here and getting back into photography after a hiatus. I have a decent lineup of EF lenses for my 5D and considered buying a used 1V for film, but since Canon just ended support for it, spending that much didn’t make sense.

Finally decided to stick with my A-1 for film and extend my EF use by going with an R6II. I’m grateful to Canon for making it such an easy transition from DSLR, letting me use the same/similar cards, batteries, and lenses. Eventually I’ll invest in some RF glass.

I’m curious to hear how you like your T5 as a companion to your 5DsR? I’ve been a long time Canon DSLR user, still have my 5D, took a break from shooting and recently picked up the R5ii which is absolutely amazing. Looking for a lighter, cheaper, travel body for everyday shooting opposed to purpose shooting with my R5ii like kids sports and portraits. I’m also considering the Nikon ZF and sadly there doesn’t seem to be a Canon model that peaks my interest for this need.

This is complicated.

I use two systems for my photography. I use a Fujifilm APS-C system based on their XT5 for my travel and street photography and a few other things. I use my Canon 5DsR with a set of L zooms for my landscape photography… and a few other things.

There is no question in my mind that the Canon R system is very good. (In fact, my wife, who also uses tow systems, has an R system body and lenses.) So why do I continue to use a camera that was introduced a decade ago with older EF L lenses?

I wrote an article about my move from the Fujifilm X-Pro2 to the XT5 a while ago. While the XPro part of it probably isn’t too relevant for you, the post does include a lot of information about the XT5, so it might interest you.

How you could combine the two systems may determine how well the Fujiflm option would work for you. In my case, the Fujifilm is my primary system for travel and street photography since it is small and light, and I almost always shoot such subjects handheld. My Canon system is my primary system for landscape and some wildlife photography, with the former almost always done from the tripod.

I do bring the Fujifilm system along as an auxiliary and/or backup system when shooting landscapes, though with a different set of lenses than what I use for travel/street photography.

The XT5 is also my everyday “always with me” camera, equipped with Fujifilm’s tiny 27mm (41mm FF angle-of-view equivalant) f/2.8 “pancake” lens.

Feel free to ask my any other specific questions about this option.

Thanks for the reply. I’m thinking/hoping it will fit my style similarly to yours. I have the R5ii for kids sports mainly and any friends/family shoots. Possibly wildlife but I haven’t gone down that rabbit whole too much. I really like the R5ii and it’s amazing compared to my last dslr, 5Dii. However it’s a bit more size to lug around for everyday outings and a bit more $$ than I’d like to drag everywhere. I went from the 5Dii to the Sony A6000 and really enjoyed the smaller size for daily tasks. Sold the A6000 to help fund the R5ii and now I miss that size.

I also like to dabble with film, and love the different challenges it brings. In a similar way I’m hoping to dabble with the Fuji recipes and jpeg shooting. I’ve always shot raw manually and edit but I’m intrigued by the challenge the recipes will bring. I’m hoping it will make me look at the world differently than I do with Raw. A bit more like film.

I ended up ordering the X-T5/ 16-50 today with some other Black Friday goodies. I would really like to get the 23mm 2.8 pancake like your 27mm but both are out of stock everywhere.

Out of stock gear is a perennial problem with Fujifilm, to be honest. In most cases you'll get the gear eventually, most likely in weeks or maybe a month. But there are a few notorious stories about equipment that was almost impossible to get for more than a year — like the X100vi and, at one time, the 27mm pancake lens.

I'll keep my eyes out, sounds like more may be shipping as early as Monday. The 16-50 will be a good start for me, and a nice lens for my wife, which isn't quite a camera person but occasionally uses one of mine to catch the kiddos. Myself, I am a sucker for fast primes but also looking forward to trying a pancake.

Why haven’t you gone R?
What would canon need to do for you to make the change?

More pixels! "Thee" one item I want most! More pixels more "information" despite what the model of sensor is.
My 5DsR's and EF lenses do the job quite well!

Dan, maybe a naive question, but do you want more pixels for heavy cropping? I ask because for me, a 40 or 50 MP sensor would just blow up the filesize without a ton of benefit and possibly some downside (more noise?), but I also typically shoot with a zoom and reduce the need to crop in post. It seems like there's diminishing return, but it's quite possible I'm just not the target market.

After 2 decades I want larger than full frame.

Debating on either of these medium format bodies:

- 2024 GFX 100s II
- 2025 GFX100RF

Having EF L lenses makes it really tempting to go with the GFX 100s II but the compactness of the GFX100RF is sexy too.

I don't do birds or sports anymore so R1, R3 or R5 Mark II's superior AF and continuous shooting mode are nice to haves.

GFX being nearly 4x the surface area of a R7 image sensor that does not have AA filter because of the pixel density is a big draw for someone who has been in digital photography for nearly 3 decades and the last EF body was the 2015 EOS 5Ds R with 1/2 the MP of the FujiFilms.

Before I reply to something that may not have been meant for me, am I the “Dan” you are writing to?

I am naive about the "technical details" outside the IQ obtained in a pixel. I crop to what I feel I should if any crop is warranted. The question was asked and I gave that reason. File size doesn't enter into my judgement. Yes "storage" of such an immense file does concern me, but I try to have a computer, and array storage, that will easily "store" said image in at least 4 file extensions. The printed or posted image size does however.
Thanks for your comment.

Dan2.,......Since Dan started responding "ahead of" me..I am Dan2 or danp....

Now the member whose question I thought was directed at me knows my "why?"
