I am using the Smallrig silicone grip for the ZR. Not too bulky but it definitely makes the camera much more comfortable to hold in different situations and for an extended period of time.
I also just got the silicone grip. It definitely improves the right hand holding experience, although I had already gotten used to the original grip and its compactness. The new grip does add a bit of bulk that’s throwing me off slightly and also has some sharper edges that can sometimes dig into my left palm / wrist depending on how I’m cradling the camera, but I’m sure I’ll get used to all of that.
Really surprised by the folks using this with big glass! Anyone putting a 26/28/40 compact lens on here to use as a carry around stills camera yet? Really curious how compromised it is in this use case.
I have the 40mm SE and it makes the package really nicely compact, while still being a fantastic looking lens, both for video and photos.
My Z 1.4 primes have been getting a lot more use though. I have also found AF to perform better with those. IMO they’re relatively small and light too.

Started a short series comparing video footage from the ZR and the A7V. A weird choice of cameras to compare? Yes... and no. I discuss that in the first video.
Not gonna lie... I enjoyed making these ridiculous thumbnails.

Thanks. The second video is much shorter and also shows some very shaky, jittery ZR footage with the same setup. TBH it’s been pretty frustrating and sort of kills one of the major ZR selling points for me, which was the adaptability of the Z mount, especially its seamless integration with E-mount lenses and adapters. I hope that at least taking the Megadap out of the equation will help.

Short follow-up video with a small handful of nighttime/low-light comparisons... as well as a quick update to the ZR IBIS issue. Spoiler alert: it was the Megadap
Using a "dumb" M-Z adapter gives me proper stabilization... at the cost of no more nice little green box for focus confirmation.

Cage Match!
I think the Tilta cage would’ve been the choice were it not for the grip, which imo brings zero benefit over the built-in one. The grip on the SmallRig feels much more usable but the top bar really gets in the way of the function buttons. Call it a draw.
