p.2 #1 · Megadap + Sony 24mm f1.4 on Zf, bad or good idea?

What do you mean by it didn't like it? It didn't work at all?
It's not an issue after I updated to FW 3.0 on the camera. But when I was on an earlier firmware, for some reason it would say something like "lens initialization failure", and it was only for that lens and no other Sony lenses.
But as I mentioned, the error went away.
It seems to autofocus fine now. I'll wait until daytime to take a shot and see how the corners look.

Nice to hear
BTW do you recommend mounting the Megadap on the camera first or the lens?

You definitely want to attach the adapter to the lens before mounting it on the camera. Otherwise you can get mixed up EXIF data. Here's an old thread where I was facing that exact problem. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1914094

They're pretty much sharp as of F4-5.6, same as(like 99%) on Sony from my experience.
One day soon i hope, Viltrox gonna make 24/F1.4 like the GM(weight&size) with even better optics. That is the dream.
The viltrox 24mm f1.8 for Z is disappointing, lower sharpness than even the pancake 26mm f2.8, poor bokeh at 30cm...
If only samyang release their 24mm f1.8 for Z... Though on Sony mount I heard it's the lottery in terms of IQ

That Viltrox 24 was one of their earlier lenses, so it's pretty weak sadly. However almost all their new lenses are excelent much better than any Samyang(aside from 135) i ever owned. Thou the most annoying thing with Samyang lenses for me was theirs "random" AF.
Anyways, yeah something like GM 24/F1.4 native for Z is my dream.

Unfortunately Nikon doesn't look interested right now in new wide angles primes nor lenses with aperture ring or retro look.

Any luck with your corner test?
I received the Megadap adapter today, will buy the lens on Monday specially if you are happy with the corner sharpness

At F8, it's decent, but even on a native Sony body, I wouldn't expect the 24 1.4 to be razor sharp in the corners, but it's very decent. Also I don't think the adapter is impacting the image quality, so I wouldn't hesitate to use the lens on the adapter. Maybe I should just turn on buy/sell and post the picture, lol. Didn't do a very well lit picture to gauge it though.
If you PM me your email, I can send you the picture.

Finally I got the Megadap Pro+ and the GM 24mm f1.4.
It worked flawlessly straight on.
I checked the corners at f5.6 and f8 , well there is nothing to complain about, it's sharp enough, on the very extreme corners there's perhaps a 5% loss of sharpness but that's it, I will do extensive testing in the weekend but from what I saw it's very good.
The bokeh of this lens is madness (for a 24mm) , it's the more pleasing bokeh I ever saw for a wide angle lens (I tried the nikon 26mm f2.8, 24mm f1.8S and 35mm f1.8S, Fujifilm 16mm f1.4, 18mm f1.4 and 23mm f2), out of focus area is very soft and the in focus part very sharp.
Autofocus? Well I tried different modes, with well lit condition like daylight any AF mode will work flawlessly, for low light AF-C with 3D tracking or pin point are excellent for moving or static subjects , AF-S is to be avoided but from memory it was the same scenario for the native nikon 26mm.
I couldn't try sunstars as it's rainy for the last 24h

Glad it works for you.
Sometimes I wonder why I have these other 24 options (Sigma 24 f/2, Z 24 1.8), when I could just adapt this 24 GM when I use a Nikon camera. I use the 24 GM on Sony cameras 40% of the time, practically glued to the body during low-light situations, so pretty happy and comfortable with it.

It's not the chosen best 24mm lens among all brands and mounts for nothing.
My only negative with this lens is the weight, dunno if adding a grip to my Zf will make things better or worse.
I am actually using the Smallrig BlackMamba hand strap and a JJC thumb rest

24 GM weight is your problem?
That's weird since it's probably one of if not the lightest 24/F1.4 on the market. Its like 445 grams, so while not feather light its for sure not heavy. Seems perfectly fine on my Z6 III(without any rig or grip).
