p.1 #1 · Megadap + Sony 24mm f1.4 on Zf, bad or good idea?
Hello
I already have the Nikon 24mm f1.8 S and 26mm f2.8 for my Zf.
I am selling the 24mm because it's just too ugly on the Zf, the camera loose all its retro appeal.
The 26mm is a perfect street lens, very discreet , sharp in the center, good microcontrast for b&w...but it's just meh for landscape, soft corners and very bad resistance to sun flares, 90% of my sunstar photos are going straight to the recycle bin.
What other options I have?
Mounting the legendary Sony 24mm f1.4 on my Zf thanks to the Megadap ETZ21 Pro+!
Weirdly enough it should look (much) better than Nikon's own 24mm f1.8 S on the Zf thanks to the aperture ring and more ''classic'' form.
Though I am afraid of 2 things:
-Total weight
-Soft corners or bad AF due to the Megadap adapter

I am not sure how well the 24/1.4 works on Nikon Z - hopefully someone who has used it can verify. With the newer better tolerance Megadap it may be fine, but I'm not 100% sure how that lens deals with the sensor stack differences.
As for alternatives, Meike just released a 24/1.4 for Nikon Z, and based on Christopher Frost's review, it actually looks like it's quite a good lens for the price, though not quite as good as the best 24/1.4s. It has an aperture ring, though it also does have a fairly modern aesthetic, which may not jive with what you're looking for.

Thanks
I checked the Meike review and specs, unfortunately it's heavier and longer than even the Nikon S 24mm or the Sony + Megadap.
As for RAW from mounted Sony lenses on the Megadap, can we use the lens profiles in DXO Photolab?

I do not believe it will work in Photolab (at least I haven't been able to get it to work on my adapted E mount lenses). In Lightroom you can apply the profile, but I have to do it manually. I just created a preset so it's just one click when I bring out my 35/1.4 GM for instance.

I've shot the 24mm f/1.4 GM on my Z8 with Megadap a lot. FANTASTIC combo. Never had any issues with IQ or AF speed (comparable to 35mm and 50mm S Nikkors), I was getting the same images as with my Sony A7R V. My current opinion is that any GM prime with Megadap is a better Z-prime than a comparable native Z-prime: 24, 35, 50, 85.

Yeah I forgot about this lens.
It's pretty light, slim profile and has an aperture ring so it shouldn't look bad on the Zf. I am gonna check reviews again

Do you really need f/1.4 or AF? For landscape, perhaps a manual focus lens will work? Then you have a lot more choices.
I will not use it only for landscape but also street, travel and other stuff like astrophotography
At the start I was in love with my 26mm pancake, small discreet and sharp in the center because my first travel was 100% street (Warsaw), it excels in that field, but my last travel at Annecy and Chamonix in the French Alps I saw the limitations of this lens, the soft corners are bothering at f8 but not as mush as the horrible flare resistance with sunstars, it's the worst lens I ever had in this matter (I used to have 16 f1.4 , 18 f1.4 , 23mm f2 apsc with Fujifilm, 24mm f1.8 S with Nikon), I deleted nearly all the photos I shot of the Mont Blanc with the sunstar, it was a mess of purple and green flares

I saw some complaints of rear lens caps getting stuck, is this a problem with the + version? Any issues with it damaging or getting stuck on the E mount lens end for Sony?

I used to have the 24GM on my Sony a7R3 back when. It was never my most-used lens, so I eventually sold it to put the money towards the 35GM. I just went through some photos I made with that combo, and I have zero complaints about that 24GM. I saw beach football/soccer and sunsets from Delaware, family trips to Copenhagen and Stockholm, e.g., photographing the narrow streets of Old Town Stockholm, vistas in the archipelago, etc, it performed very well both wide open and stopped down.
I mean, it is not a cheap combo if you have to buy both the lens and the adapter, but I highly doubt the combo will disappoint. Or you could get the Nikon Z6 III instead and keep the Nikon Z 24/1.8 and it will look better :-)

Can't wait to see your test
Sorry. Been busy at work, and I've been getting home late at night. Will try it soon and let you know. I remember awhile ago, I tried it and for some reason the Megadep did not like the 24, but I've since updated the FW and will let you know if I broke through that issue.

What do you mean by it didn't like it? It didn't work at all?
