These portraits were taken in Varanasi using a 75mm f1.4 Zeiss Biotar. It is an expensive vintage lens that yields some of the funkiest bokeh I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I broke this lens during the trip, and it is probably unusable going forward. It just popped out of my camera bag. I hadn't slept very well that night, and my brain was just so fuzzy.

The people of Varanasi are amazing!

What beautiful portraits Charles. A shame that you accidentally broke this lens. Have you considered making a book of all of your Varanasi portraits?

Thanks, Steve. I haven't really considered publishing. I just enjoy the adventure. It gets me out of bed in the morning.

What aperture did you shoot those at? Looks like stopped down a little unless that old lens has that much detail wide open?
It was wide open at f1.4. The fact is that only a circular center portion comes out sharp with this lens wide open. That is why a square format is a strategic decision.
