One, two, three, four, five
Everybody on the water, so come on, let's ride
#1 Jump up and down and move it all around
#2 Shake your head to the sound
#3 Take one step left and one step right, one to the front and one to the side
#4 Flap your wings once and flap your wings twice
#5 And if it looks like this then you're doing it right
Z8 + 180-600, all hand held, f6.3, auto ISO, shutter speed ~ 1/500. Overall I find the 18-600 to be pretty great value for the price. Larger images at the top of this gallery
The back story:
Decided to go to the Tijuana River Estuary at high tide. As might be expected from this location the estuaries were flooded and devoid of any birds... except this osprey that was munching on his dinner right by the beach. Had to patiently wait for 30 minutes to finish the meal before s/he started posing for me. By then the sun had dipped behind the marine layer and the light was rapidly fading, so I had to use shutter speed of 1/500 or lower to keep the ISO from going astronomical at f6.3 This explains the OOF wings, but in this case I think they contribute to the mood.
That is my favorite too. The next frame in the burst is with both eyes visible (not posted), but I thought that the "peekaboo" one adds menace to the scene, particularly with the partially consumed carcass fully visible.
