p.1 #1 · Why the sudden rush to get rid of Ricoh GR IV?
Have noticed there seems to be a rush to get rid of the new Ricog GR IV on the B&S board. Don't understand why. Buyers remorse? Waiting for the B&W version? Or something else? Please share your thoughts. Rjanks

Wait… there’s a b&w (monochrome) version coming? I’ve been avoiding the small camera trend but this would be very interesting.

I picked one up and overall it's a nice little camera. However, I did not anticipate how much more annoying the workflow is with the fact that it uses a microsd card so you have to either use a dongle to copy pictures over or use the import function on a Mac since it does not mount as a drive.

There’s a sudden rush to get rid of every hot, new camera. In this economy, people put in a preorder quickly and sell it immediately while supply is still limited to make a little money.

I think a lot of people bought the new GR IV, took a few shots, and then realized it's not that different from the earlier GR models. The image quality hasn't really changed in any noticeable way, so for many, the upgrade just didn't feel worth the price...especially if they still have their previous GR.

Some of the listings are at prices above the net price I would have to pay at Amazon using their credit card. (I don't have the B&H Payboo card, but the same appears to be true there.)
Could be redundant orders, not happy with it, or a chance to make a few bucks.

Truly trying to understand how this works for people. How would one predict which camera will have a shortage and also predict which one will sell here? Further, the risk is significant, especially when using goods-and-services payment on the forum.

People are just flipping into softer than expected demand, or trying to offload extras from pre-orders at multiple places.
These are still relatively hard to get from retailers, but it seems to be a artificial / manufacturing constraint rather than true demand. I've got one coming this week from a small shop, didn't pre-order at all, just called around a bit and found a place that had a few coming in. My pre-order @ Amazon and other large-ish retailer are still back-ordered. Either Ricoh is having issues, or they're just slowly shipping them out to try and keep demand inflated.
As others said, there wasn't a massive leap in this generation.. New, slightly improved lens, better AF, BSI sensor, some minor layout/button changes. It occupies more of a "fun" space type of camera, as opposed to a serious tool for most, and I know I prefer the "X" model and the longer focal length, so I imagine many are holding out for that, or the monochrome version (which I am definitely picking up). For me, I'll be packing it in the same bag as the Q3 43 for travel / trips. I love the GR for going out at night, dinners, just places where I don't want the (relative) bulk of the Q3. But due to IQ (APSC) it's not a primary camera for anything other than the "maybe I should just bring a camera in case I see something" scenario.

I returned mine - decided the workflow wasn't great and too annoying for the price and I didn't like the GRIV color rendition. I probably didn't like the GRIII color rendition either but leans too much into being filmic all the time.
If you like the GRIII, I think it's a nice upgrade but not for me.

Have read user feedback of GRIV lens getting stuck while retracting into body after a few hundred shots.
Used an older GRD before, didnt like its neutral, bland image colors. Nevertheless, its very pocketable with croppable image size. At its current price, there are other options with tradeoffs.
