Picked up this lens on an impulse during a recent family trip to Japan, especially since it is usually out of stock in the US and I managed to save a few hundred dollars buying it in Tokyo. The photo below was taken a few years ago in Costa Rica using my older 90mm macro lens. Now I just need to find the time and some good subjects to put the new lens to work 🙂

Sorry for taking so long. Here are a couple of shots.
I did minor adjustments in Lightroom , noise reduction, a small bit of sharpening, etc.
The first one of each pair, is very minor cropping and no enlargement.
The second of each pair , is a bit of cropping and enlargement to 50%.
You will clearly notice that once the 2XTC is used, the depth of field becomes even smaller. I stopped down for f/8 to f/10 to try and increase the depth of field. My ISO really jumped with the TC .. These were handheld , no flash. I had the lens set for at the max 1.4 These little flies are quite tiny probably no more than 1/8 " long.
Since I was outside , the light changed and the subjects moved around to different flowers. However, it is the same subject in all of them.
Any questions , please don't hesitate to ask. I will gladly try other shots if you wish. Just keep in mind, I am no expert at macro or lens testing . I am sure I did several things improperly.

P.S. Normally, without the TC I do a large crop. I will post one at the end with 200% crop.

Thanks so much for those images.
I've been trying decide between this lens + a TC vs. one of 2X Laowa lenses. I want the 2x magnification and usually try to avoid using TCs on any lens. I really didn't want to give up the AF and image stabilization of the Sony, but I could have kept my Sigma 105 macro for the AF and just added the Laowa 2x.
However, I think you've ultimately sold me on the Sony + a 2X TC. The fact you were able to get these shots handheld at 200mm/2.8X is quite remarkable. Either you've got a very steady hand, or the stabilization really is as good as advertised. The IQ also appears to hold up much better than I expected, even when cropping in.

Just placed my order!
The image stabilization is great. I am not that steady any longer, another perk of growing old ! I was sitting on the ground and I try to prop at least one elbow on my knee or something around me. Also, the color rendition of this lens is truly remarkable.

I've been impressed with how little it degrades with the 1.4x TC added. The optics of this lens in general are amazing. I'm sure some of it is in-camera digital correction, but regardless it's very impressive. I was pretty much unable to force significant longitudinal CA in situations where other lenses fall apart.
I just wish the AF were magic and always focused instantly exactly were I want even when handheld!
