Thanks to rscheffler for the attempts to help in the previous posts.
Saga with the R1 (R5 II?) menus continue. I don’t have the R5 II any more. There are 2 custom functions designated with the magnifying glass icon labeled “Magnify/Reduce”.Canon doesn’t know why. They’re also lost in the menu mess. I suspect a duplication. On the flag ship camera it is a huge embarrassment.

Maybe someone should have started with a simpler camera?

I have no idea what the actual question is, but here is an attempt at an answer. Under the Custom Functions menu you can assign non-default functions to various buttons/knobs/switches. I use BBAF, DOF as toggle for one shot/burst, SET goes to raw/jpg size selection, and so on. There are hundreds of combinations of things you can assign to whichever button/knob/switch flips your bippy. Most folks use it to set up their cameras to function as they want. I don't call having a ton of options redundant. "Useful" comes to mind.

Isn't one a button and the other a function that can be assigned to whatever button you want? Then the magnify button can be used for a different function.

This is not a request for help, but the info. about a bug in the menu system to make the camera users aware.
The comments show that people don’t know their cameras. The only relevant question is why after such a long time since the product release the problem wasn’t identified and fixed?

Any chance of a couple of screen grabs to show us the problem?
