I don't deal well with cold weather, with my fingers and toes doing the worst, so I tend to avoid winter photography. And I'm not talking below zero, even 25 degrees and wind chill is a problem. So I'm looking for recommendations for heated jackets, gloves and socks, preferably battery powered. There are so many options it would be helpful to get some recommendations based on real world experience. The technology seems to improve every year so discussion of relatively recent gear would be great.
Yeah, I get it, cold weather kills my hands and feet too. The Ororo jacket’s been my go to, heats up fast, lasts all day, and isn’t bulky. For tougher weather, Milwaukee’s Toughshell line is solid. The Gerbing S7 gloves are super warm, while Ororo’s feel lighter and more flexible for shooting.
For feet, Lenz and Hotronic are top tier, pricey but steady heat where you need it. Venustas or Gerbing socks work fine on a budget. Definitely grab spare batteries and keep them warm under a layer. Heated gear’s gotten a lot better lately, makes winter shoots actually bearable.
