p.2 #1 · Why doesn’t the z8 has a larger screen like zr?
I'm hesitant on the "do you understand time" type of comments on some of y'all have made. It's not 2002 when the D1x's 2" LCD was probably the best tech available. External monitors/recorders e.g. Atomos with larger LCDs have been around for years. I'm skeptical that Nikon couldn't have in 2023 given the Z8 a larger screen if they'd thought it was a good idea.
Now, as to those of you saying that the reason Nikon didn't think it was a good idea was that 3.2" is all the real estate for buttons and controls that a pro is going to want to cede, I probably mostly agree. BUT, as Ikka mentioned, the LCD size has tended to drift up over time, so we may all be proven wrong. Speaking of that 2" LCD on the D1x in 2002, I'm sure plenty of people were saying at the time that that was as big as pros would want to go. Hell, back then, people were saying that pros would never use the LCD so Nikon should've cut costs and saved space by skipping it entirely (or using the monochrome settings-only one from the F5).

None of this matters. It’s all speculative BS that doesn’t deal with reality, as the question posed by the OP didn’t either.
You’re more than welcome to spend your days speculating on what the screen will be for a future Z8 replacement - personally I feel these conversations are a waste of time as they don’t address what is, for me, the central question of photography: how do you make great images with the tools you have access to?
But asking why an already existing camera isn’t different is beyond pointless, as none of us are in a position of having any direct knowledge of Nikon’s design choices, much less have any capacity to change the past.

I mean, I mostly don't even disagree with that opinion. But my point is that (a) there's a way to say it without saying condescending stuff like "do you understand time" and "[asking OP to think] might cause a substantial roadblock right off the rip" and (b) I don't see this kind of speculation as remotely unusual on FM, especially the brand forums, so I'm not sure why this OP in particular got everybody's goat.

I agree with Lee Saxon regarding condescending comments and admire him for calling attention to it. There is no place for condescension on any forum.
Second, the Z8 is a hybrid; I use it for *short* clips almost as much as stills. Yes, the rear screen could be much better, but there is always the option of an external monitor.

This - exactly

Because there's no room - photographers need more buttons/controls on a high performance hybrid camera than an entry-level videocentric camera.

True but you would also lose the monitors structural integrity and durability as a result. Take that Zr's screens dimensions, and superimpose it on a Z8 body, you would lose the cameras buttons on the right hand side, affecting both functionality and ergonomics. Two very important factors in a stills camera. Where the Zr , a Video focused hybrid is not a very ergonomic camera and likely designed for a video cage or gimbal use. Very different cameras for different purposes.

True, but the bezels are ginormous. You could probably go to near 4in by eliminating those bezels.
