p.1 #1 · Lily Pad Marauder, the Little Green Heron..
The Green Heron is a favorite of mine, but we don’t find them that often around here so when we do, it’s special. An early morning outing to one of the local ponds and all I could see were lily pads and more lily pads, but after some very careful looking there it was a young Green Heron. This little guy was jumping and walking from lily pad to lily pad putting on quite a show. It’s interesting to watch them hunt, they can spot something 50 feet away and in a flash be on top of it. I watch this guy stand on a lily pad and bounce it up and down creating some movement to get any small fish or frogs to move out from under it, and when they did they didn’t escape the heron’s piercing beak.

Wonderful set of one of my fave's Louie! They are keen hunters for sure. I am always amazed at how they disguise their long neck and use it to their advantage too.

Eric, thank you so much for your comments, I appreciate them very much. And yes, I've seen them fire that neck out like a snake striking, fun to watch them go about hunting.
