I have used it with a monopod, but difficult to do it behind the scenes at the rodeo with the horses, contestants, etc...so I wore a two camera harness (Z9 with the 70-200 on the other shoulder)...long night...lol, but worth it...and I do shoot it all the time...
I just picked up a Leica SL3, so excited to try the 280/2.8 with it.

I wonder why. My own experience and every I've read shows the opposite especially when it comes to focusing.
IBIS still helps at longer focal lengths, but its effectiveness does drop as you go into telephoto range because small hand movements get magnified a lot more.

Indeed but it is still a big help with a 280mm.
Now that I have been shooting my EV1 for some months I like its lighter weight and although I sometimes miss the M11P rangefinder to see outside the frame lines (so I still use for moving subjects) I usually had a EV with my M11P so it seemed heavier and clunkier. The EV1 especially if matched to smaller lenses like my own fav 50 apo summicron is a light compact carry that I often appreciate. For me this raised a new question, I am often hybrid dig and film shooterwith the M11P I often carried a MP and they seemed weight balanced to me. Now when I carry the EV1 the MP feels like a boat anchor in comparison, even worse for a M3. I really like the M3 .91 so much easier on eyes, but it feels out of balance, similarly I really like the quality feel of the MP, but it too is out of balance. M3, M4 and MP are as good as it gets which is why I have them. The M4-2 is neither, but feels more balanced with the EV1. So I settled on a M4-2 as the EV1 companion, to me they feel well matched in weight and both black in color are dig film twins that I think look good together. With a small lens like an LLL Elcan on the M4-2 it too is a light package complimenting the EV1. I could use lots of other lenses but for a simple 50 mm hybrid outing this is my solution to the EV1 hybrid shooter carry when film is an adjunct rather than the primary goal. My evolving EV1 use.
Had another opportunity to spend some time fondling a bunch of Leica gear including the M EV1. I'm surprised by how much the weight savings resonated with me. It's so incredibly light compared to my MP. It's sure to throw the balance off with many of the brass lenses, but it's just a delight to hold with something small.
I was going back and forth between the M EV1 and the M11-P with the Visoflex, and I think I prefer the elegance of the EV 1 solution. It also makes shooting flash a non-issue when paired with lenses like my 21 Simera.
I still will try to hold out for an EV 2 with a faster refresh rate EVF and better focus aids—I'm not sure it's possible for them to do the eye detect confirm thing without AF on the sensor—but it'll be a tougher wait.

I seem to recall a harness rig / holder that Tony (Imagemaster) used about a zillion years ago ... might be worth a PM to Tony. Kind of a drum harness meets flag holder (mono-stick) if memory (doesn't) serves me well. If you're already strapping up, a slight mod could be something to think about.
If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, get an M11 with the visoflex. It's a real rangefinder and will retain its value over the Ev1.
Don't get me wrong, EV1 is nice but for the most part any other modern mirror less that takes an m adapter does the same if not better. The only thing that makes the EV1 unique is the red dot.
Now. Regular M. Nothing out there like it. Real RF shooting experience that is satisfying.
Perfect example of an EV1 alternative. This is an old one but the A7C would be better than what I had here.
I was initially very sceptical about the M EV1 especially having experienced the Nikon focus confirmation green box in action. However a month ago I decided it was the M like handing and small sleek size that made the EV1 a worthy addition. For careful composition, levelling horizons, and exposure metering based on the histogram, it is far ahead of the classic rangefinder. I find myself carrying the film MP and the EV1 on most days, and now see the M10 just being taken out if an event calls for a lot of action ( in the past liveview the Visoflex had only been used in acts of desperation ).

Already often discussed here and elsewhere, one key reason for me to potentially go with the M EV1 is that no adapters are needed ensuring that my wider and ultra-wide lenses work without corner fringing or blurriness. I can talk from experience since I have used my Sony A7R many years adapted to M lenses before buying my first digital Leica M. The Sony A7 series is not better than what the EV1 can do - actually the opposite. Using Sony or other brand MLC adapted to M lenses only has one advantage: much lower price.
My lady will likely be adding the Nikon ZF to our camera stable (anybody selling one in great condition?!). I've already got one of those spiffy adapters to put M lenses on it. I'll use that camera to get my "digital M" fix and then maybe jump on the M EV 2 when it arrives (depending on sensor quality). I really loved the weight of the body.

That's probably one of the best choices/plans - as alternative to the Zf is currently only the bulkier and also pricier SL version ensuring best M lens compatibility via adapter. I am also hoping for the M EV-2 because it will cause used prices for the EV-1 drop quickly.

Well, I don't agree with the basic premise, but I will say as a former M11 owner, the M EV1 seems to be retaining it's value more than an M11 if you look at used prices.

Likely because less people buy a new M EV1 for the original price, so less used M EV-1 versions hit the market at this point. There are a lot more used M11 versions available driving prices down more since the M11 is also much longer on the market.

Nikon USA refurb sales once per month, they've been about $1300-1500 depending on the month. We're due for a sale in the next 2 weeks.
