Sometimes I miss stuff
So even while working on new material I revisit my old raw file archives. Every year I review the prior year's files to see what I missed, and periodically I go even further back — sometimes a decade or two. I always "discover" photographs that were left behind at the time I made them. (I'm not the only photographer with this experience. I have theories about why this happens…)
These photographs come from raw file archives from trips to Southern Utah a decade and more ago, and include work from the national parks (Zion, Capitol Reef, Arches) and a few less visited places. They are "old" photographs, but hey are also "new," in that this is the first time that I have shared them in this form.
(I am cross-posting this in the Canon forum since the photographs used several Canon 5-series bodies and Canon L lenses.)

I know exactly where that third one was taken, from the image itself and your description on flickr. And I agree, the little side vignettes are often overlooked.
Of the set, I'm most connected to the first image at the moment. I will say though, it's interesting (in a good way) to see something from a bit more distant perspective on "Sandstone Formations, Early Morning Light" than I typically take note of from you. Nice work as always.

Thanks. You know, I've come to expect that I'll find one or two missed opportunities among the old files, but I am frankly surprised at how many there are from some Southwest trips I did over a decade ago. Life was different then, and I may have simply moved on to other projects before I gave the photographs sufficient consideration.

I like that first one, too. Which is probably why I put it first here!
I do the long view stuff, too, but eventually it feels like the infinite number of possible small scene subjects takes over my interest.
And, yes, a lot of people — including many here on FM — have probably visited this place and walked past that little scene that you recognize. :-)

Thanks. That makes two of us — I'm also pretty fanatical about rocks, especially the beautiful, colorful Southwest sandstone.

A general note about my replies:
First I love to discuss my photographs — how I made them, perhaps what I was thinking about, how I approach them in post, your reactions to them. "Thank you" to those who are interested in engaging on these subjects in the "presentation" threads.
Second, I mostly try to wait at least a day or so (with some exceptions) and then reply to multiple comments as a group. Maybe it is just me, but sometimes I get the impression that some FM’ers are replying individually to every comment just to run up their "count." Call me suspicious! (On the other hand, perhaps they are just more polite than I am? ;-) )
(Sometimes the percentage of posts by the OP in these threads approaches or exceeds (!) 50%.)
