p.1 #1 · Stiff zoom ring on 28-70mm f2; what to do?
I’ve had this lens for the best part of a year and have been using it regularly. In the last week or two, for no obvious reason, the zoom ring has stiffened up.
What should I do?
- live with it and hope that it loosens again
- return it to the vendor for fixing, losing use of the lens for an unknown period?
- take some action to self fix it?
- …?

Things like that don't typically fix themselves. It's more likely to get worse.
Are you comfortable tearing down the lens? I can't find any tear downs online, but there is one for the original 24-70GM that makes me think I'd have to be desperate to attempt it myself. I doubt the 28-70 is significantly less complex.
If you bought it new, it's still under warranty, and there's a strong argument for letting the pros handle it. If you bought it used and/or its no longer under warranty, then I'd still suck it up and let the pros handle it. Either way, if you qualify, you might want to consider buying Sony's pro support. It has its advantages, including lens loans.

Funny that you posted this now, mine is in service for the same thing, I joined Sony pro, they have the lens for about 10 days charged over 800. minus 20% cost over 600. Good luck.
