p.1 #1 · My first shots with my new OM 100-400mm f/5-6.3 Mkll lens -- and some thoughts.
I thought it appropriate to make my first test shots ones of our sweet cat, 'Max'. As you can see in these images, he's back to top form after being right on the doorstep of death a couple months ago.He almost died from Pancreatitis caused by a reaction to a vaccination -- and at one point could barely walk and was down to about half his current weight. But praise the Lord, he has rebounded with good vet care and lots of love -- and hopefully is in for another 10 years with us.
Having said all that, I couldn't pass up a deal at Precision Camera the other day during an OM System 'hands-on' event where Precision would cover the Sales Tax on any OM lens purchase. That coupled with a $200 cash bonus credit card deal sealed the deal.
I still have my Mkl version and did a lot of side by side comparison shots. The new lens and the old one are equal in sharpness (which is all I was expecting). The new lens with the tripod collar is ever so slightly lighter in weight. It is a bit stiffer in zoom action -- I suspect due to better weather sealing. The big pluses are a definite improvement in IS (my main reason for purchase) and what seems to be quicker, better subject detection focus lock. OM did move the tripod collar alignment marks to the camera side of the collar, which is nice when you have the lens tripod mounted.
I'll be listing my Mkl on the Buy & Sell Forum pretty soon -- I kind of hate to sell it, as it been such a great lens, but I don't need two.
Anyway, here's 'Mr. Max' in his newfound state of heatlh. Oh, and we're getting a new puppy tomorrow -- so consider this a 'new puppy photo warning'!
