I've seen it before in other (DSLR) bodies, so when I started getting the half-lit images, it was time to send the R7 in.
I've been hammering it pretty hard, using the H and H+ shutter rps almost exclusively, so it has to have a lot on it.
No idea how many, but maybe the repair shop will tell me. I got it new on a sale from CPS in the Spring of 2023, so a lot of clicks.

The design life is 200,000, so maybe that is in the normal range.

So, roughly speaking I've had it 30 months. 200,000 MTBF means 6,666.6 per month. 1,666.6 per week.
I just looked at one of the average weekly forays into photo work, and the day's sessions totaled just over 1,000 clicks.
Looks like I got good work out of it, and now it's off to Canon.

Mechanical shutter failure? I am assuming you mostly use MS or EFCS.?
How did that effect the ES.
I ask as this i the first shutter failure I have seen reported for RF bodies.

OK, MC? EFCS? ES?
Mostly mechanical, mostly H+ frame rates.
I'd use the electronic at 30 fps, but it is silent and I need to hear the shutter.
If there's a way to make ti beep or something with the electronic shutter, I'd use it.

Go into the R7 TAB menu and you can enable sound when you are in electronic shutter mode:

You will get artifacts sometimes on moving subjects in ES mode and the buffer is also weak at 30FPS.
However, there is a time and place for ES.

I’ll have to give that a try now that I can have sound, thanks.

R7 returned today, the usual quick Canon turnaround.
Works fine, but the "enter a password" feature of the firmware update will have to be killed, pronto.
Made the electronic shutter noisy. We'll see if it is loud enough.
Oh, and I forgot to ask the shutter count, I've got a request in for that, just as a data point.
