p.1 #1 · Monitor for Mac

I am thinking about replacing my 27" Mac Studio monitor with a 32" display. The available Mac product is a bit too pricey so I am looking elsewhere. Does anyone here have any recommendations to offer?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Just a thought... have you considered a pair of 27" monitors instead of one 32" That's my setup and I like it a lot.

My biggest beef with the 32" mac studio display is that it requires thunderbolt and is actually driven as if it were two separate panels, making it a pain to drive when switching between a mac computer and a windows desktop.

I have tried a number of different panel setups for photo editing on my mac. I think my favorite for general usage was the dell 5k x 2k 40" ultrawide. It has a built in KVM switch, and it requires a single cable connected to a laptop (including macs) that delivers 100w power, connects the display, and connects to the USB ports on the monitor. (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-ultrasharp-40-curved-thunderbolt-hub-monitor-u4025qw/apd/210-bmdp/monitors-monitor-accessories)

Then we moved to a smaller apartment so I had to massively downsize and so now I have a single 32" panel and went with OLED because I was tired of having blacks not be black. I'm on the fence about ditching ultrawide (if I had the space I think I would have stuck with it) but the infinite contrast ratio and proper HDR is amazing for editing photos, watching videos, and these modern OLED panels have crazy high refresh rates that just feel a lot more modern. They come with consequences of having to avoid static objects etc etc but dell has a 2 or 3 year warranty against burn in which is plenty of time to destroy the panel if its going to happen so I havent changed much. (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/alienware-32-4k-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw3225qf/apd/210-blmq/monitors-monitor-accessories)

If you are set on the ultra high resolution panels, dell makes a 6k monitor but like most cutting edge panels, its kind of picky about how you drive it to get full color output (should be fine as long as you use HDMI on a modern mac).

I have tried dual 27" monitors and liked them for years but after using an ultrawide 40", would lean towards the 40" every time just because its much easier to setup and use, and its more practical. A word of caution with dual 27 or ultrawide monitors is to remember that photos are generally a 2x3 aspect ratio which is more amenable to a single 16x10-ish normal ratio monitor, not an ultrawide, which would make a 32" a better use of screen realestate if that is the primary purpose of the monitor.

Also, I primarily use dell monitors because they have generous warranties and dont argue with warranties or repairs in my experience (as well as generally not requiring repairs). There are plenty of other manufacturers but i'm lazy and just want good service over finding something better than the products they have. I believe most of the Dell monitors use LG panels if that matters to you.

Hope this was helpful

To all who have responded here: thank you. Your ideas are more than helpful. I believe that I will look into the ASUS 32" display when it becomes available.
Thanks again.

I have an Asus 5K 27" monitor side by side with a 27" Apple Studio Display. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't buy the former.
