p.1 #1 · Nikon D700 Over exposing

I just purchased this Incredible camera. I am using Nikon AF-S 50mm 1.8G lens
When I bring the Raw images into LR I notice they are a little over exposed.
Can you suggest something that I can do to minimize the Over exposure. Thank you

No one knows what settings you are using. At a basic level, knock the exposure compensation down to -0.3 to -0.7 with whatever settings you're using now.

First thing I would suggest is to reset all settings. If the camera is new to you, a previous user could have changed the exposure bias or something else that causes the over exposure and would not be readily apparent if you aren’t familiar with the camera and menu options.

Being that the D700 is getting on in age, it could also be an electrical or mechanical issue with the shutter or meter calibration, aperture arm, or an issue with the lens aperture (is the lens also new to you?).

If none of those things are causing the over exposure and it is consistently metering with different lenses and in different light, you can either dial in exposure compensation as Scott suggests or set the exposure bias in the menu.

I will go back and check the settings to make sure. Thank you for all those that responded
