If suddenly, M did not exist ... what would you shoot?
Participation requires you actually ARE an M shooter.
Rules of the game, saying it's "M or nothing", or otherwise indicating a continuance with M isn't part of the game. If M did not exist. That includes M bodies and M lenses. A world without M of any kind ... bizarre, I know.
Hey, it's a game ... or, maybe just a nightmare, for some.
I would shoot with Q(2) in manual focus, recently got a hold of nailing zone focus shooting stealthy from hip and what fun! That's what autofocus can't do because it'll be all over the place. Or! X2Dii with 38v and I'll be a happy man 🫣

I would go for something similar in size rather then trying to replace the rangefinder experience, maybe a smallish Sony body with some older MF lenses from Olympus , Minolta etc or perhaps as other has mentioned the Fuji X system

This would probably lead to a very successful kickstarter campaign and bring back the M system.
Maybe but building a rangefinder camera is incredibly difficult and expensive because of the precision needed. Finding qualified personnel with some experience is another issue.
And if you want your rangefinder to be digital, this is worse: more precision, a dedicated sensor, etc.
If not M, to scratch this sort of itch, I think I would probably give the 907X & CFV 100C a try. But I would also want to try this system with one very special highest quality lens for such a fanciful system as the 907X & CFV 100C and I'm not sure if such a lens currently exists for this system or not but I think it would be very interesting to explore.
If M didn't exist - and no LTM nor M lenses - my choice would be a mirrorless FF camera, at this point likely preferably the Nikon Zf, another Nikon Z-series, or Sony A7R IV for example.
I wouldn't consider a cropped sensor camera. I would otherwise opt for a Fuji - but since it's APS-C sensor based, it remains a no-no for me personally.

I hope it is ok that I weigh in. I had a Leica M10 for about 4 years and sold it about a year ago. So for me, Leica M doesn't exist any more. What did I do? I got a Fuji X camera (X-T5 for now but may get an X-Pro4 if they make it) and Voigtlander X mount lenses. I have the 23 f/1.2, the 35 f/2 APO Ultron, and the 50 f/1.2 and I like them very much. Not exactly like Leica M, but similar in a lot of ways too.
If no M system, I will go with Nikon Zf/Z8 with smaller Voigtlander Z-mount manual focus lenses. Personally, I found that Nikon has a better EVF implementation that others (no in technical specifications). The third choice will be Hasselblad XD system.
I've been seriously considering letting go of my M240, as I like it, but I'm not sure how much need I have for a second system.
My alternate would be using some native MF Voigtlander lenses on my Sony. I think the 35 APO or 40 1.2 might be enough to scratch the itch for shooting something a little different.
