p.1 #1 · Yellow Mounds and the Pinnacles

We were driving towards the Pinnacles entrance station of Badlands National Park and approaching the Yellow Mounds overlook when I spotted a small pullout long enough for one car and curiosity made me stop. There was a hill that blocked the view from the car when you pull in so I climbed the hill and the view was breath taking. There was a small point that I walked out on to take these photos of about half of the Yellow Mounds and with the Pinnacles in the background. It had rained over night and it was just starting to clear. The wet rock brought out the sedimentary lines on the Pinacols that usually look washed out and my polarizer popped the colors of the Yellow Mounds under the soft light created by the fading clouds.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

Looks nice Morris! You found a good vantage point. I prefer the 70 mm shot - see more details this way :-)

Thank you Jacob,

That's my preference as well. I like the way the first shows the valley between the mounds and that's why I show it.

Nice pastels, Morris. I prefer #1, though I could see cropping a little bit off the bottom.

The combination of freshly washed rocks and soft light must have made for stunning photographs
