p.1 #1 · Need Canon EF Adapter for Sony A7 IV Body
Have a Sigma MC-11 for my A6500 body. It does OK with the A7 IV for stationary subjects, but need something for football specifically. Simply doesn't track. Could probably get by with it for baseball. Suggestions?

The last time I used a Canon lens using the Sigma MC-11 was on an A9 body. It wasn't ideal for tracking but it did semi-okay for largish birds, like Sandhill cranes. In general though, the newer the camera body, the better the AF performance and using an adapted lens, that works only upto a certain degree. Your best bet, although it goes without saying, is to use a native Sony lens, I am afraid.

If I was shooting sports I would use native lenses. I don’t believe any of the adapters will provide the AF abilities required for sports. I use the Sigma adapter for my Canon mount Zeiss lenses on my Sony cameras…but it’s for landscapes.

My 2 cents.
The Metabones and Sigma adapters work pretty well up to 200mm at least for me. After that the AF starts falling off pretty quickly regardless of lens.

I used MC-11 with A9:
Sigma 500 f4 S - fantastic.
Canon EF 85 1.8 - fantastic.
EF 200 2.8L - abysmal.
I never used EF 400 DO II with it but it's widely reported to be one of the best EF/MC-11 combos.
Sony firmware updates can degrade performance of adapted lenses.
In summary, it's a crap shoot. If you find something that works, don't do any updates that cannot be rolled back. ie, all Sony body updates.

The MC-11 worked "ok" for me with a gen II Canon 400 f2.8 EF on the A7R4 for soccer. Eventually I sold that and just got the 600mm GM which is light years better esp with an A1

I have MC-11 and Metabones V. Only MC-11 is able to focus continuously in burst mode (shutter button depressed) with A7 iii and only on Sigma lenses. The Metabones just locks focus after the first adjustment. So does MC-11 on Canon lenses. I have the latest firmware on both. They just don't work well at all. Only adapted Sigma lenses with MC-11 are usable for sports as far as I can tell.
I tried sigma 35, 150-600 and canon 24-70 (4 and 2.8), 70-200 ii and 300 F4 IS.
