I had the 12-100 f4 but no longer have this lens. I like the 40-150 f2.8. I think this lens and the 300 f4 (and a few other lenses) are good reasons to own a micro-four-thirds camera.
I don't do much wildlife photography but this lens is useful to me for some street photography. It is the strongest at 150mm and can be used for taking street pictures from a reasonable distance to the subjects. The lens isn't white; thus it doesn't attract as much attention. It isn't small/inconspicuous, of course, but it is not too large or heavy. Basically, this is one of a small number of m43 lenses that I would not consider selling and one that I am very likely to take with me when travelling (together with some other lens that covers the 10 to 25 mm range).
I did rent the 40-150 and it is a stunning lens. Next to 300 my 12-100 is most often used lens and that is part of issue is not sure I can let it go. I also own 8-25, 12-45 to fill gap to 40-150 if I did sell 12-100. Just a tough decision. Nice thing about 12-100 can fit it in my sling bag with 8-25 which is great for travel. I may just have to keep 12-100 for travel

I think if you do let the 12-100mm go you'll regret it. Actually, I also own the 12-100mm and the 100-400mm and think it's a great, seamless combo. I do have the Mkl version of the 100-400mm, but as soon as I get a bit caught up financially I plan to get the Mkll version -- primarily for the Synch IS.
I used to be a professional wedding, portrait, and corporate event photographer and honestly believe I could do all of that work with just the 12-100mm f/4 -- it's my best all around lens.

Yes I think I certainly would regret selling the 12-100. With the dual sync it’s such a nice lens. Was shooting butterflies this week with the 40-150 and man they looked good. Maybe I should try the new 100-400 II also. Right now the 100-400 is primarily dragonfly and butterfly lens. It’s good to have choices
I found the 12-100mm an excellent lens, but too large to always take with me, which is really its purpose. When I need versatility, I prefer the 12-40mm f/2.8 lens.
The 40-150mm is also a stellar lens, but I often found myself taking the Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 with me, as it's much smaller and still delivered the reach I needed. I took the 40-150mm when I wasn't in cities or wanted the extra reach.
I actually sold the 40-150mm yesterday and it will be replaced by the new 50-200mm (as will the 300mm f/4).
