p.1 #1 · Just back from the 'Hummerbird Celebration' at the Texas Coast

My wife and I just got back from our annual trip to Rockport, TX for the excellent 'Hummerbird Celebration - 2025". The beauty of creation on full display! I have many images to process, but here are a few.

Some great stuff here Greg, but you saved the best for last if you ask me!

That hummer and BF are a great picture-story right there.

Thanks, Eric! That image was quite a blessing, as I was actually about to nail a shot of that pretty butterfly, when the hummer came buzzing in and slammed on the brakes. One of those totally unplanned things that you capture and probably won't ever capture again -- I love it when that happens.

The attached image is another one that happened some years back, that I'll never see again in my lifetime.

Yes, lots of good opportunities for sure. I wish the trip hadn't been so short, but I still managed to get a few GBH and Great Egret shots too. I just would have liked to get some good seascapes, but didn't have the time. Maybe next year.

Looks like a fun way to spend a few days. Tough to choose a favorite, I'll go with the last three. So a successful trip ?

Thanks, John.
It is hard for a trip to this area to not be successful -- especially this time of year with the Hummer migration about to start. It's an awesome opportunity, and I highly recommend it. This takes place every September around the 15th-20th, and there are all kinds of birding opportunities -- not the least of which is a list of about 20+ locations provided by the Chamber of Commerce where property owners open their yards for photographing and viewing hummers with flowering plants and feeders galore.
In addition, there are other activities like professional birding tours, and a great 'Raptor Demonstration' at the Rockport High School Auditorium presented by a raptor rescue organization called "Sky Kings" -- this year they had a beautiful Eurasian Eagle Owl, several different hawks, a pair of Kookaburras, and a pair of European Ravens. The presenter demonstrated how the 6 ft. wingspan of the Owl makes no noise in flight -- very cool.
