Thanks, Al. It was interesting to compare to photos from a month earlier years before. A month earlier (lower sun) the entrance to the canyon was stunning, but the rest, as I walked up & down, never got good Rayleigh scatterings. This time it was the opposite. I guess it all evend out, eh?
Beautiful, Monika! How many total miles was your roundtrip hike? I was reading a report from someone who approached via the Poison Spring 4WD road and they logged a total of 13.5 miles on foot.
Beautiful shots Monika, #3 is the standout for me, print worthy for sure. I have to get in there, but not sure my wife is up for the hike - need to get a friend with an appropriate vehicle to join us!

Thanks, Ross. Mileage was around that (that's the way I went in). Plus 3x up & down the canyon itself trying to catch the light at the different parts of the canyon. Long day.

The majority of the hike is flat -- just the drop & subsequent climb to/from the Dirty Devil (which, on the return can be pretty hot) for any significant elevation. I've read that people bring a packraft when they're there with a group & on the return, float down to where Poison Spring crosses the Dirty Devil & have a 2nd vehicle parked there. A bit more shuttling, but it avoids the uphill hike (which is kind of steep & loose in parts). And depending on the condition of the road, you may not need high clearance. I check the comments on Road Trip Ryan for stuff like that. BLM office in Hanksville won't know about Black Jump conditions.
